Seesaw Desk Lamp
An interactive luminaire which offers interchangeable (omni) directional and ambience of light, able to illuminate desired or all parts of the room depending on whether it be right side up, left side up, or both equally balanced.

Inspired by Playfulness

Seesaws are an essential object of childhood, being a medium of joy produced by interaction. The interaction of a Seesaw was conceptualized into a light source, capable of changing its intensity and direction based on the position of its being.

Form and Function

Ideation broke down the elements of a Seesaw, and tracing the motions of its interaction into a streamlined form.
Objectives were to hide the light bulb into the body and ensure the controlled direction of illumination.

Playful

Final prototype was made from upcycled wood from thrown out furniture.

Making and assembly was made to be as precise as possible to complete a seamless body.

Finishes were influenced by Postmodernism to create a spunky look with seriousness.

Up and Down

A successful prototype delivered playful interaction with the user, granting them control over the light and dark sides of the room.

A toy of childhood is now reimagined into one's home fixture for indoor lighting.
